Surely it's intended as satire. People from Arkansas are capable of it. I have friends from Arkansas.

I regret that this letter is from an Arkansas newspaper. That fact alone automatically lends itself to mistaken preconceptions.
I do love me some satire (Jonathon Swift's work comes to mind), but I did not get the impression from this clipping that it was indeed intended as satire. I truly hope that it is, but I have seen and heard enough people with equally misconceived logic that it would not surprise me if the writer of this letter was just that misguided. .... it does, however, make me very tempted to find this Connie M. Meskimen in order to ask what her intent was. Anyone up to the challenge? :D
